Conditions for viewing your child’s youth care file
As a parent who has custody or a guardian, you can view your child’s youth care file under certain conditions. This file contains information about the youth care that is provided to your child. If your child is 16 years of age or older, you will usually need your child’s permission. Read all the conditions (in Dutch) in the fact sheet ‘De gegevens van uw kind vastgelegd: het dossier’ (‘Your child’s details recorded: the file’).
Having details in the youth care file amended
If the details in the youth care file are incorrect, you can request that these details be amended or deleted. For example, you can have the following details amended:
- an incorrect date of birth;
- incorrect details about the school;
- incorrect details about the course of previous assistance.
You cannot have all the details amended. For example, you cannot amend a care worker’s opinion. However, you can have your own opinion added to the file. The youth care worker or youth care institution will decide on the changes to the details.
Having details in the youth care file destroyed
You can also request in writing that details from the file be destroyed. The youth care worker or youth care institution will decide when this is possible. For example, this will not be possible if the details must be retained in the interests of another party.
