Applying for a lifelong learning credit

If you want to do a course or study but are no longer entitled to student finance, you may be eligible for a levenlanglerenkrediet (lifelong learning credit). You can use this loan to pay your tuition fees or course fees.

Conditions for lifelong learning credit

To be eligible for a lifelong learning credit, you must meet certain conditions. For example:

  • You’re taking a full-time, part-time or dual programme in higher professional education (HBO) or at university (also covers modular programmes). Or you’re taking a full-time BOL programme in secondary vocational education (MBO).
  • You are younger than 57 years of age.

How to apply for a lifelong learning credit

You can apply for a lifelong learning credit from DUO.

Application deadline for the lifelong learning credit

You should apply for the lifelong learning credit in good time, before your course or study starts. You cannot apply for the lifelong learning credit for months that have already passed.

  • If you are going to do a full course or study, you should apply for the lifelong learning credit before the course or study starts.
  • If you are not going to do a full course or study, but only a module, you should apply for the lifelong learning credit for the duration of the module.
